SUMMARY:The Clinical Dietitian serves as the Food and Nutrition
Services representative in patient care activities. Responsible for
providing basic nutrition assessments and care planning for
patients. Performs as a member of the interdisciplinary team
responsible for the design, coordination and implementation of
optimal nutritional care and education of patients/staff in
accordance with established standards of care. Complies with
business practices to uphold the hospital's mission and values and
Academy/ Commission on Dietetic Registration Code of

ACCOUNTABILITIES / CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Completes nutrition
assessments following the steps in the Nutrition Care Process and
collects pertinent data which is documented and communicated in a
complete, accurate and timely manner.Evaluates health status and
disease condition history for application to nutrition care in a
variety of settings including but not limited to Medical, Surgical,
Critical Care, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Maternity, Oncology,
Cardiology, Rehab, Behavioral Health and outpatient areas as
requested.Documents the nutrition diagnosis, nutrition
prescription, goals and appropriate interventions and revises as
information is available during the monitoring and evaluation
process.Uses approved clinical privileges for order writing, which
is consistent with applicable training, competence, organizational
policy and as defined in the Connecticut Practice Act.Places
initial or revised parenteral nutrition orders for peripheral or
central line administration when required as part of job tasks to
ensure quality care is provided to patients.Collaborates with
patient, caregivers, interprofessional team and other health care
professionals and serves as an integral member of the
interprofessional team and resource by participating in patient
care rounds, medical rounds, discharge planning and patient care
conferences.Complies with laws and regulations related to area of
practice for state licensure, certification, federal and state
regulations, scope of practice, job description, and employer
requirements.The RDN demonstrates competence in and accepts
accountability and responsibility for ensuring safe, quality
practice and services.Integrates the Standards of Practice and
Standards of Professional Performance into practice and
professional development and purses new opportunities for growth in
professional practice.Participates in mentoring RDNs and healthcare
professionals and serves as preceptor for nutrition and dietetics
students/ interns to support their growth and
development.Participates in peer review and training of others as
applicable to role and responsibilities.Contributes to or leads in
development, execution and maintenance of programs and services
that will align nutrition services with the mission, vision,
principles and values of the organization in a collaborative, cost
effective, customer centered manner.Collaborates with the Culinary
team and leads the design of food delivery systems to address
health care needs and outcomes through the development of
individualized menus and projects to enhance the patient
experience.Documents according to organizational policies,
procedures, standards and in compliance with accreditation
standards, laws, and regulations.Reviews best available research
and contributes to the development of new knowledge in nutrition
and dietetics and participates in efforts to apply research to
practice.Demonstrates ability to convey concepts to other health
care practitioners, patients and the public when providing
community presentations and education sharing current,
evidence-based knowledge and information.Participates in unit,
department and /or facility committees and meetings and establishes
credibility and contributes as a food and nutrition resource within
the interprofessional health care and management team.Uses
resources effectively and efficiently through strategic management
of time, finances and technology, when organizing workload and
accomplishing tasks and meeting deadlines to maximize patient care
outcomes.Participates in quality assurance and performance
improvement activities following hospital
procedures.QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:Masters degree as required
by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (effective Jan.1, 2024)
or a Bachelors Degree grandfathered prior to this
update.Registration/ Certification:Registration from the Commission
on Dietetic Registration within two months of hire.Connecticut
State Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CD-N) within two months of
hire. Years of Experience:3+ year of acute care experience
